Flood Update
JELLYFISH RE-OPENS WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM A FRIEND!
CHA CHA CHAR & JELLYFISH RE-OPENED TOGETHER WITH 'BEST OF BOTH' MENUS LAST FRIDAY - NORMAL TRADING HOURS FROM FRIDAY LUNCH! Who would have thought that in the middle of our sub-tropical summer, our lovely restaurant would be engulfed by the river with such force that it ripped out our flood gates, tossed fridges around like footballs and left a trail of destruction of devastating proportions?
Tuesday 11th January however, was not a normal day. Our heart goes out to all those who lost so much and especially to those who lost family members.
On Wednesday we waded through the mud and began what seemed like the impossible task of cleaning up 12 inches of mud coated, nice and evenly, on every surface. By Friday we saw our floor for the first time. Literally tonnes of equipment from fridges to ovens, ice-maker’s and wine glasses either floated off down the river or was tossed into skips.
We have a fantastic team and were lucky enough to also have an amazing band of volunteers who made our progress so much faster and more efficient. Devastating as it has been, we have already commenced the re-build.
In the meantime we have moved in with the iconic Cha Cha Char at the Eagle Street Pier. Chef, Rhett Willis will work alongside chef Ben Williamson offering a limited Jellyfish menu as well as our famous steaks and other Cha dishes. Supplies will be limited and this may go on for some time but we have great relationships with our suppliers and will get the best of what’s available.
